-Description-
Ascorbyl palmitate is a fat-soluble derivative of ascorbic acid, which is marketed as a nutritional supplement. It is used as nutrition strength modifier or an antioxidant in foods, pharmaceuticals and cosmetics, and it also can be used as an antistaling agent.
-Function-
1)It is a better supply of vitamin C than vitamin C itself. As a highly effective liposoluble antioxidant, oxygen scavenger and synergist, has been widely used in foods, vitamins, drugs and cosmetics.
2)Ascorbyl Palmitate has been evaluated by WHO Food Additives Committee as a non-toxic, efficient and GRAS food additives as well as a nutrition enhancer.
3)It has been included in the United States pharmacopoeia (USP) and the United Kingdom pharmacopoeia (BP) as pharmaceutical excipients
4)It is the only antioxidant approved to be added in infant food.
5)It is also the natural antioxidant same as VA,VE.The safety is much better than other synthetic antioxidants such as BHA, BHT, TBHQ.
6)Being fat soluble, it can enter the cell membrane (needn't transporter for active transport) and access the lipoproteins where ascorbic acid cannot reach.
